About AppBoat
AppBoat gives you a boatload of app reviews each week. It’s an iPhone application and game review site. We hand select the best apps and games that are winners in various categories so that you don’t have to keep buying apps that make you sad. To give you some incentive, we’re also giving away free apps each week (to learn how, read The Categories and The Apps below).
The Skivvy
Here’s the deal. We choose a new category each week. We search high and low and uncover the best apps in that category. Each day of the week, we release a review for one of the top 6. On Sunday, we announce the one we thought was the best. They’re all excellent choices, but only one clear winner.
And because every winner needs a loser, we’ll find the absolute worst app in the category. It may or may not be listed on one of the 6 days leading up to Sunday (depends on the size of the category), but it will be the worst of the bunch. And just because it’s bad, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy it. We’ll show you some things about it we think make it the worst, or just laughable.
The Categories
With so many apps out there, we choose categories that often fill some kind of niche. We try to get very specific about what the category is. Most of the time, these won’t directly correspond to one that Apple has defined and that’s because Apple is very broad about their categorization method. We want to narrow in on how people use their apps and play their games, and provide categories that help solve a particular problem or itch.
If there’s a need you have, and you want to know what the best is for that need, send us a suggestion for a category. If we choose your category, we’ll tell everyone that you suggested it, and then we’ll gift you a free copy of the winning app for that category (or up to $9.99, whichever is less).
The Apps
Our process for finding the best apps out there is simple. We scour the web and the app store, looking for the apps that meet the guidelines of the category. We slim them down based on community reviews on the app store, and professional reviews. We try them out, and we write about them. At this point, they’re all worth your money. But, at the end of the week, we announce which one deserves to be crowned king of the category and declared the winner.
If you are feeling lucky, and have a great eye for this sort of thing, submit 6 of the best apps for an upcoming category. If you happen to submit the exact 6 apps (in no particular order) that we end up selecting for the week, then we’ll tell everyone that you’re the insano who managed to read our minds, and then we will gift you each one of the apps (or up to $59.94, whichever is less). If there happens to be a tie, the person who also matched the Worst App of the Week will win.
